The end of the garden for the season

I planted a fall garden in August and it was going great. I have been eating lettuce a ton, snap peas, and bush beans. I even had some more zucchini coming up too. I picked 2 the other day and there are still maybe 2 more on the plants.

With temps going to hit in the 20's at night starting tomorrow night, I had to get out there and pull everything that I could so I wouldn't loose anything. I got a ton of romaine and butter head lettuce. A few handfuls of bush beans, a few tomatoes (I still have more out there but they are green), and a couple of zucchini.

I also pulled my carrots, even though some were not ready and small, but they were sooo yummy. Nothing like the stuff you get at the grocery store for sure.

Bad picture of me, but I wanted Matt to take one of me seeing how I am always behind the camera. I've lost a bunch of weight so all my pants are big and baggy.

All my carrots. It is times like this that I miss my bunny Allegra. She (he) loved the carrot greens.

The carrots all washed up and ready to be pealed and cut up to freeze. I didn't plant a lot because I wasn't sure how they would turn out. I tried carrots a few years ago and they never happened. Next spring I plan on planting a ton more. We love carrots.

My carrots all cut up and put into three serving sized packages. I will probably use these in stews and soups.

My backyard. Love the colors. If you look carefully, you can see Matt. Just follow the fallen tree into the forest. Matt has been working on a fort back there. He was cutting up fallen trees to make a lean-to.

My yard again, only this is the side that goes behind the other homes in my park. We all share the space back here, but I turned the area right behind my home into my garden.

The last of my flowers growing in my garden. I did companion planting this year with much success. Not very many bugs at all. I think I saw one potato beetle and one squash bug, but that was it. I even had a very big grasshopper living in the garden feeding off the bugs that I didn't see. Nothing bothered my plants.

After digging up everything and clearing some of the garden, my knees started to hurt big time. I iced my knee up, but it didn't really help much. I ended up going to bed early and sleeping in. Now to wait for the cold weather to get here. I have plenty of sewing to keep myself busy and warm.
